In El Paso on August 25 regular army officers questioned Massachusetts commanders about storage for extra equipment as troops near war strength prepare to return home. Some units may lack armory space and must seek storage offsite or alternate facilities upon their return to Massachusetts.
The discussion on storage raises interest about when Bay State troops may return home. Officers had not considered travel plans until storage questions arose. The queries have sparked hope among the troops.
Mrs William G McAdoo wife of the Secretary of the Treasury and a Wilson daughter has a light scarlet fever attack at Pring Lake New Jersey. Condition not serious and recovery expected after consultation by Dr Cary Grayson and Col William Gray Schauffler. Secretary McAdoo traveled from Utica New York to be with her.
Thomas Sheridan of 341 Washington Street Lynn collapsed from heat on a Boston Revere Beach and Lynn train and was taken to East Boston Relief Hospital in serious condition, listed on the dangerous list.
Captain Jachens of the North German Lloyd liner Willehad received a letter from his wife in Germany just after the ship reached New London from Boston. The letter indicates the Willehad had been moved from Boston to New London and that the Fatherland knew of the shift, though the captain did not confirm the departure in Boston.

London August 25 Richard Norton son of the late Professor Charles Eliot Norton Harvard vice chair American motor ambulance corps in France and his second in command had a narrow escape near Verdun while collecting wounded A shell hit the road 20 feet from their car wounding Norton in the leg The French government praised the corps and suggested Norton form another convoy with 15 or more suitable men and subscriptions.
Dublin August 25. Tim Healy attorney for the Skeffington family addressed the resumed inquiry into the death of Francis Sheehy Skeffington and denounced those responsible for the execution as the story would vibrate through the country for centuries even if done in Brussels.
Lieutenant Leslie Wilson testified at a Skeffington inquiry session that Captain Bowen Colthurst shot a boy named Coade after a question, claiming guards delivered prisoners to death and intent to bury the incident. He said Skeffington was killed as a witness and accused authorities of concealing the truth.
Elias Gates, 35, a Syrian posing as a chef, was arrested by Inspectors Murphy and O'Neil for entering rooms at 479 and 6508 Massachusetts avenue and 414 Columbus avenue and stealing dresses worth $250 from young women employed in downtown department stores. He had skeleton keys to open patent locks, trunks, and doors.
Washington August 25 rail leaders vote unanimously to send a counter proposal to President Wilson. They call for a five member arbitration commission to determine an eight hour day with pro rata overtime pay and a temporary wage fund during the inquiry. The Interstate Commerce Commission would oversee fund setup. The commission would serve for about three years and handle other wage disputes.
Washington reports that four railroad brotherhoods told President Wilson they cannot keep their committee of 640 in Washington beyond tomorrow night. They demand a definite answer on Wilson's plan already accepted by them or permission to return home to prepare for a strike. All is ready for a walkout once the committee signals.
The President offered no firm promise and scheduled a noon appointment tomorrow. Afterward, three railroad executives were summoned to the White House. Presidents and managers held two talks and worked late on a draft communication to the President. They indicate the railroads would accept an eight hour day with pay at the ten hour rate.
An explosion near midnight at the phenol works of Merrimac Chemical Company in North Woburn sent shock waves through the city and drew the entire Woburn fire department to the scene.
A blast in an acid tank at the vast ammunition plant set the building afire and threatened nearby works for a time. Officials cited excessively high temperature as the cause. No employees were injured and the blaze was controlled quickly by the fire department.
In the Bronx yards of the New York New Haven Hartford railroad a boy, a man, and another boy were involved in a high voltage accident. A man named John Fulton, an inspector for Union Railway Company, died after grabbing a charged boy to save him, suffering a fatal neck injury.
