Sherman Returns as Treasury Issues Pensions Warrants
General Sherman is back in the city. Warrants for 10 million dollars were issued by the treasury department for pensions. Revenue receipts today totaled 431,580.27 and customs brought 905,797.18. National notes redeemed reached 252,060. First Comptroller Lawrence, head of the Ohio Republican association, received a letter from Mrs. Garfeld proposing unrestricted sale of the Garfield mansion. The education bureau plans a table on southern education comparing white and colored school populations, enrollment, and state expenditures in 1889. The acting secretary of the navy has letters from many universities seeking navy engineering officer details to promote steam craft education.
