Eighteenth Regiment Expected Arrival and Reception
The Mass 18th Regiment was set to arrive in the city last evening from New York with about 150 returning soldiers and another equal number remaining in the field. A noon reception at Faneuil Hall was planned. Officers include Lieut. Col. William B. White and Major Thomas Weston. Meanwhile a robbery on State Street yielded 17,000 in bonds from Brewster, Sweet & Co. Fire at Harvard Place caused minor damage but heavy water impact. A Charlestown war recruiting meeting drew a large, spirited crowd at City Hall chaired by Anthony S. Morss.
