Richmond Enquirer summary of Charleston siege and naval actions

A lengthy dispatch from Morris Island describes the bombardment of Fort Sumter by Union ironclads and monitors, with Fort Wagner and adjacent batteries suffering extensive damage. Officers such as Capt. Rodgers are killed, and the fleet, led by Admiral Dahlgren, sustains heavy fire while maintaining operations around Charleston. Reports indicate Sumter's fortifications are severely breached and the city faces continual bombardment, with civilians evacuating as fresh despatches track the evolving siege.
