President Roosevelt directly mediates between Japan and Russia as six cablegrams from Count Lamsdorff arrive at M. Witte in St Petersburg. Direct parleys now in progress between Emperor Nicholas and President Roosevelt with Ambassador George von L. Meyer as intermediary. Indemnity remains a sticking point with William blamed by some for blocking concessions.

The battleship Kearsarge damaged the New York schooner N. S. Gallup after a collision five miles southeast of Point Judith, capsizing the vessel and leaving two aboard, Captain John Andrews and his son William, rescued by Kearsarge crew. Gallup owner National Oil Co. of New York faces under $500 loss.
Herbert TL Johnson formerly of Elgin Illinois and a Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company worker, living in the city for four years, was found drifting in the North River New York last night after being murdered for money allegedly on him.
Identification of Herbert Johnson relies on a Boston Young Men's Christian Union membership card dated October 29 1900. He came to Boston in 1900 lived on Berkeley Street then 109 Chandler Street worked as an electrician for Gamewell Company in West Newton resigned August 1 took the Old Dominion to New York and vanished. Neighbors describe him as quiet scholarly loved languages and had few relatives. his friends report shock at his disappearance. He was a blonde five seven about 165 to 170 pounds.

John W. Hutchinson the famed Lynn bard and 16 year engagement case dissolved by a quiet August wedding in Portsmouth New Hampshire to Mrs Agnes P Everest of Washington DC. The elopement shocks locals as Hutchinson faces a breach of promise suit from a Lynn woman.
The marriage occurred at Mr. and Mrs. Henry Horne’s Islington Street home at 4 o clock. Mayor W S Marvin officiated. Brides and grooms were attended by Kern and Reginald, children of the Horne family. Mr. Hutchinson sang The Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man.
Four alleged robbers were arrested in separate sections of the business district after midnight. Patrolman Donovan nabbed Samuel Geary at the Haywart Hotel as he exited a rear basement with liquor. Patrolman Dexter Littlefield caught Otis W. Kenney burglarizing Joseph Ferrende’s shop, 229 Harrison Avenue. North End police seized Thomas A. Hodgson and Charles Daly at 172 Friend Street for breaking into R. W. Burpee’s store.
Milbury reports tool maker Charles Buck died of acute indigestion two hours after he fell at the gate of the Methodist camp meeting in Sterling Junction. Buck was a noted tool manufacturer and his sudden death follows the incident at the gathering.
