Ninth Has Taste of Real War
Pine Plains Camp New York August 23 The second working day of the Ninth Regiment impressed regular army instructors with the handling of men and the response during regimental drill and problem maneuvers. Morning drill covered battalion and regimental close and open order while afternoon tasks included a hike and a battle formation problem in outpost and reconnaissance. The regiment split into two imagined armies Red led by Major William J Casey for the second battalion, and Blue formed by the first and third battalions under Majors George F. H. Murray and John H. Dunn.
