Trains Collide in Columbia Yard Disaster Kills 860 Livestock
Two freight trains collided in the West Yard of the Pennsylvania railroad at Columbia. Hartford Aug 22 The Morgan memorial monument in Cedar Hill cemetery four miles from Hartford was destroyed by fire last night. The Italian marble structure valued at 60000 with three carved female figures was ruined, the shed housing it set ablaze at 1115 pm by a suspected tramp. No watchman, fire discovered when flames enveloped the shed. Albert Entress of Hartford, the contractor, faces loss and possible ruin. workmen were from New York and Jersey City. Gov E D Morgan and sons were buried in the vault beneath. Suspicion centers on ghoul activity or retaliation against workers. Completion had been planned for December. loss estimated well above 15000. St Gaudens of New York designed the mausoleum. carving followed setting of stones.
