City Point yachts arrive after storm and other local items
City Point yachts reported missing after last Monday night’s storm have all returned to their moorings. A meeting of First Brigade officers occurred at Boylston Hall to discuss tactics and instruction. The Governor and Council accepted an invitation for a steamer Empire State excursion today and will meet in the saloon during the trip. Six cars of the new South Boston Dover street line will depart Park square in a music procession Tuesday evening at 7 15 and begin service Wednesday morning. A grand St James parish excursion from Downer Landing is planned for Monday August 25 with trips from Rowe’s wharf at 9 15 and 10 30 A M and three afternoon runs. Rumors say Stearns, Gardner propose S M Felton, E B Phillips and Chief Justice Brigham as arbitrators on railroad tunnel rate disputes. The Cochituate water main burst by Warren Bridge Thursday afternoon, flooding the Charles River and cutting East Boston water until repairs are done.

Judge Rules on Alimony and Visitation in Batten Divorce Case
A Supreme Court hearing on Batten v Batten debated alimony while Eva Batten sought access to their 4 year old son. Judge Lord questioned Dr Dixwell, president of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, about visitation rules and guardianship, noting mothers have equal rights unless the court dictates otherwise. The judge suggested visitation could be allowed under reasonable restrictions, or the child might remain with the father if relinquished, with future court action if care changes.
