The Delaney Letter in Charleston Politics and Loan Scheme

A republican era critique describes Delaney from the North denouncing carpet bag rulers in Charleston and urges unity of black and white citizens to oust them. It also attacks Secretary Boutwell and the so called syndicate behind a proposed four to five percent loan, questioning terms, transparency, and beneficiaries as the nation weighs a funding plan.

Diverse items from a 19th century paper note shows many curiosities

A long jumble of brief items newsy in tone reports varied topics. Colfax district aims to return a figure, Irish potato issues, Ku Klux law debate, and oddities from alligators to lotteries. Notable mentions include Grants farm, a Philadelphia era satire, wild cat hunts, a Virginia mine accident, and a Sacramento lottery anecdote.
