The Central Labor Union warns it will mobilize 80000 workers if Commissioner Curtis discharges any patrolman for joining the police union. The climax of the controversy is due today as Curtis plans wholesale dismissals, refuses to reveal his plans, and labor leaders will seek the governor's removal.
Letters purporting to be from Lieutenants Paul S. Davis and Harold G. Peterson, missing Army aviators since Sunday, claimed they were held by bandits in Mexico for a $15 000 ransom and would be killed if not paid.
Cleveland August 7 The Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and En- hosted a wage scale demand calling for 35 to 65 percent raises for 117,000 firemen and hostlers on U S and Canadian railroads. The call followed the union’s pre adjournment action by 300 general chairmen.
The Prince of Wales travels aboard the flagship Renown, the British battleship headed for Canada. Captain Taylor leads the ship as it transports the royal traveler from England to Halifax and back, with royal insignia absent from his bedclothes.
A report by the Commission on the Revision and Enrichment of the Book of Common Prayer proposes faith healing and prayers for the dead, anointing with oil, sacrament reservation, and intinction. The changes face strong opposition and are slated for submission to the general convention in October.
A Boston Central Labor Union meeting in Wells Memorial Hall rallied 80 000 metropolitan workers in sympathy with the Boston Policemen's Union. Delegates voted to strike if officers are discharged for union activity and pressed for a 2200 salary and eight hour day.
Patrolman Morgan of Station 9 Roxbury was badly beaten and relieved from duty after trying to arrest William Donovan, 24, at the Geneva avenue and Columbia road junction. Donovan, aided by John J. O'Brien and Daniel Kernahan, attacked Morgan as he restrained Donovan.
Patrick J. Griffen of Windham Connecticut employed at the Victory plant in Quincy was burned to death in his room at 8 Botolph Street Atlantic early yesterday. Roomers smelled smoke and broke open Griffen's door to find him on the floor near a burning bed. it is believed he fell asleep with a lighted cigarette.

Three killed and three injured as the New England States Limited railroad southbound crashes into a crossing auto near Jonesville Vermont. The locomotive derailed and plunged into the Winooski River killing engineer C. R. Smith of St. Albans. Victims include Mr. and Mrs. John Miles of Huntington Centre hurled 50 feet from the impact.
Forecast calls for showers Monday and probably Tuesday in northern and southern New England with moderate to fresh east winds. Local showers and thunderstorms are expected in many east of the Mississippi regions, temperatures near monthly averages, and winds from the Atlantic coast east to Sandy Hook turning fresh to strong.
