Belgian reports claim a rout of German forces as the German advance nears Brussels. The Belgian government transfers the seat of power to Antwerp and French forces bolster near Strassburg. British troops in Belgium total about 75,000 as the crisis unfolds.
The City Hall assessing department announced a tax rate of 17.50, up 30 cents from last year. Mayor Curley blamed the increase on the preceding administration’s alleged disregard for public rights in a statement issued last night.
The mayor explains the new tax rate citing Boston's portion of state and county taxes and the city levy. City taxes total 13.57 with 4.01 for schools, while real estate valuations rose to 1.237B and personal estate to 309M from last year. Polls increase by 1600.
Paris dispatch reports French troops pushing steadily against German resistance along the north Lorraine frontier south of Alsace.
