James F. Smith discovers the victim of a Washington street accident is his father J. J. Smith, 62, struck by a Franklin New Hampshire machine driven by Mr. Gardner. The driver was stopped, the elder Smith was taken home, and doctors feared his brain condition could prove fatal.
Somersworth reporters note Nicks Kap Salakas alias Nicholas Capsalis alias Marie Brown eludes authorities after the murder of his aunt Maritsa Kapsalitsa. Her body was found in a barrel in the Wal lace Block tenement basement. A missing purse and a list of names hint at local Greek ties and possible motive. State's Attorney Dwight Hall leads the case with Sheriff Frank R. Smith and City Marshal Thomas C. Joyal aiding the search as Greeks in Smoky Hollow allegedly resist capture. North Shore society organized a large Gloucester Day fete at Stagefort Park in Gloucester. Thousands enjoyed vaudeville and county fair features, a marine band from the U S Dolphin, and a sunset searchlight with fireworks. Mrs John Hays Hammond led the lemonade table with Miss Helen Taft and Baroness Rosen among her assistants. Charlie Taft planned to attend by motor boat but his boat broke down and he was towed home.
Oyster Bay Aug 15 Roosevelt did not pledge support after a conference with Lloyd Griscom chairman of New York Republican county committee who carried a Taft message. Roosevelt remains noncommittal on endorsing the Taft administration and plans a current program without a clear endorsement.
Mr Griscom met at Sagamore Hill then Cold Spring Harbor where he said Taft and Roosevelt share views on the New York State situation. He stressed he spoke for neither the President nor Norton and that no gubernatorial candidate names were discussed.
Weather bulletin from Washington August 15 predicts showers for New England with fair skies in the northwest on Wednesday and light to moderate variable winds. Yesterday’s temperatures ranged from 59 to 87 degrees with an average of 74.8.

An 18 year old woman, Helen Skehan of Cambridge, entered a Central Square drug store and, after muttering about a man, drew a large revolver and threatened to shoot. The clerk hid behind the soda fountain as the armed woman demanded quiet and fled the store.
A one hour clash in East Boston involved 50 North End men armed with baseball bats and a blackjack storming a local group over an insult to a sweetheart. Eight men were arrested for disturbing the peace as neighbors joined the fight along Border Maverick New Cross streets.
Report describes numerous cuts and bruises among men arrested after a police onslaught. Police arrested eight of the crew, and the invading force began to dwindle as the confrontation reached the corner.
A head on trolley collision on the Gorge route at Swift Drift near Niagara Falls injures nine, one seriously. Conductor Charles F. Vaughn is in critical condition as brakes fail on the down river car. Wreckage overhangs a two foot drop into the river and parts fall into the whirlpool.
State militia were recalled to Columbus for riot duty and disturbances that had plagued the city for three weeks subsided. Troop B and Battery C of Columbus stayed in camp while the first Cincinnati regiment was expected to arrive overnight to reinforce the area.
The body of Alexander McNally 28 years old formerly of Boston was found in the Chenango River in Binghamton New York. He had been missing since Friday and was reported to have come to the city a few years ago.
Captain George H. Breymann head of Breymann Brothers marine contracting firm was killed in a wreck near Perrysburg. His wife and two sisters were seriously injured in the same accident.
Harold R. Leupold, a resident of Fitchburg, aged years, waded to Park Hill pond alone and drowned while beginning swimming lessons. Lifesavers found him unresponsive. efforts to revive him failed. Police are investigating the incident.
