Four Dorchester residents narrowly escape burning auto plunge

A touring car laden with four Dorchester residents slid down Adams street Ashmont at noon yesterday for about a half mile and crashed into a trolley pole at Minot street. The occupants escaped with minor scratches as flames engulfed the vehicle and the gasoline tank threatened to explode. The car’s steel frame was twisted to ashes and the four leapt to the dusty street, aided by onlookers.

Taft warns census workers to avoid political activity

In Beverly on August 15 President Taft sent a letter to Secretary Nagle of the Department of Commerce and Labor stating that any man involved in the 13th census who engages in politics will be dismissed. He directs that census officials enforce a strict rule banning political activity by supervisors and enumerators.
