Market swings on tariff talk stir as stocks rise then fade
The tariff discussion sparks brisk trading in Boston with broad gains led by Sugar and Burlington. Sugar signals a potential windfall for the American Company from raw sugar purchases, while granger stocks retreat on crops. Copper, General Electric, and tobacco move higher as traders eye Washington action and President Cleveland's response.

Fronts of Boston Sugar Trade Turmoil Affects West Indies cargoes
In Boston the Sugar Trust and tariff uncertainty plague merchants and shippers from the West Indies. Overstuffed sugar warehouses, docks, and sheds strain under a small British cargo, with casks stacked high and little space to spare. A local theft tale highlights a dishonest reward story. The death of seaman’s boardinghouse keeper Francis Crosby is reported, and the Yarmouth line reports strong passenger trips to St John. The Esopus steamer returns to service after repairs.

MMSE Married Men Again Rally for a Lark in Boston Ride
North Cambridge gentlemen who dined, danced, and serenaded last week staged a follow up prank by chartering an electric car for a Boston round trip. The West Somerville Band played aboard from 7 pm through Main Street and Bowdoin Square, with three signs declaring their wives away and a quest to drive dull care away. They returned to Peter Gray’s home for chowder after the trip and named leaders including Peter Gray Major Gaylord W H Hill and C B Seagrave with plans for more fun under way.

Deadly Electric Wires Fatality at Street Railway
Benjamin Mooney aged about 24 was killed at work on the electric street railway wires at the Newbury Essex street corner. He stood on an elevated platform wagon and fell about fifteen feet to the sidewalk.
