Ellery Barnaby eleven years old climbed a Salem street pole in Haverhill while playmates watched. He attempted to walk a high tension cable and was shocked. Sparks flew from his feet and he fell to the ground unconscious and bleeding.
A boy absorbed more than 3000 volts of electricity and survived after his clothes burned from contact with a live cable. Neighbors rushed to help as the mother, unaware it was her son, fainted upon recognizing him. Physicians treated both for hours before revival.
The bride Mrs Mary A Lappen wed at St Margarets Dorchester sails on the White Star liner Cmyrie leaving Liverpool bound for England and the continent. Congressman Murray will attend the sailing then return to Washington two months later after resuming duties on his congressional committees. He will be joined by Miss Florence Hammond, an aunt, for the abroad tour.
William R. Willis a seven year Harris Fellman Jeweler and optician store manager Woonsocket was arrested in Auburn at his father in law George Bass home by Inspector John T. Sutton. He admits taking diamonds and watches and with Sutton and Fellman went to Boston to locate pawned items.
An 11-year-old girl from near Davenport gave birth to a healthy 8 pound 12 ounce child at University Hospital. Hospital officials withheld the girl's name.
Joseph H. Nute former Malden councilman and active in fraternal groups died at his home 130 Rockland Avenue Malden aged 69.
Sam Schepps known as paymaster of the Rosenthal murder gang is to be held on arrival from Hot Springs Arkansas as a material witness rather than an accomplice. Immunity hinges on his willingness to corroborate Jack Rose and Bridgie Webber who allege Police Lieutenant Becker instigated the killing. Detective Burns names three men who aided police blackmail of gamblers and implicates two inspectors.
Whitman doubts Schepps’ role in the killing but believes he has knowledge that could strengthen evidence against Becker. Rose and Webber stop at showing him as paymaster and general helper after the murder. Schepps knew Becker and heard orders to seize Rosenthal, yet he was not entrusted with detailed planning.
On August 12 in New York a vendor from Italy wheeled a heavy hand organ before the Astor Mansion at Fifth Avenue and Sixty-fifth Street as crowds gathered awaiting the Astor heir. The butler demanded silence but paid the organ grinder to stop, ending the performance.
Representative Theron E. Catlin a Republican from Missouri was unseated and his Democratic challenger Patrick F. Gill was seated amid wild Democratic cheers. Gill defeated Catlin after contesting the election, signaling a party shift in Missouri's delegation.
A string of trolley crashes in South Boston yesterday left eleven injured. Five were sent to City Hospital with serious injuries, while about six more suffered bruises and shock. The worst crash occurred at 7 30 P M when a Dudley Street inbound car collided with an outbound Meeting House Hill car at the Dorchester Street transfer station on West Broadway.
The defective switch caused an outwall bound car to derail onto the inward bound track. Leo Childs 45 of Shawmut avenue suffered head and chest contusions and was most seriously hurt while William Bailey 20 of West Fourth street South Boston was shaken and hospitalized briefly. Margaret Ranney of Lynn and Catherine Colewan and Mary Muldowney were treated for internal injuries or minor hurts. Two children Catharine and Mary Reilly were shaken. Edith Livingston of South Boston fell from a car at the same spot and was hospitalized. John Russell 39 of Baldwin street fractured his ankle after touching a live trolley wire while painting a pole nearby.
Two men collapsed in the heat of yesterday as humidity soared above eighty percent. Thomas Murray, 32, of East Third Street South Boston, fell from his wagon near Marginal Street and was taken to East Boston Relief Hospital. James J. McNeiman, 47, of Pleasant Street, collapsed near Broadway extension and was sent to City Hospital. The day reached a high of 87 degrees with intense humidity, the warmest since mid July, and cooler weather was not expected soon.

Allan line steamer Corsican with 287 passengers from Montreal to Liverpool struck an iceberg east of Belle Isle near Newfoundland. Captain Cook reported the stem was damaged above the waterline but the ship was not taking on water and would continue the voyage. Rumors of help from Lake Champlain and Scandinavian were denied.
The Corsican, 11419 tons, built in Glasgow, hit an iceberg about 100 miles east of Belle Isle in dense fog. Scandinavian stood about 38 miles away as weather and slow speed contributed to the accident. The Corsican carried 25 first class, 62 second class, and 200 steerage passengers and sailed from here last Friday.
The Pekin correspondent of the London Daily Telegraph says China has offered the post of advisor to the government to William W. Rockhill. Rockhill, former American minister to China from 1905 to 1909 and later ambassador to St. Petersburg, has been ambassador to Constantinople since April 1911.
