Agent Leman reports Spotted Tail was en route to Washington when Crow Dog approached in an ambulance with other chiefs and fired a revolver causing his death. The incident occurred as Crow Dog confronted him, details are partially recorded from Rosebud dispatches.

A Calais youth drowned Friday while playing near the dock. James White of Wiscasset, 50 Seucs, drowned himself Tuesday night. body found Wednesday morning. Burglars robbed George L. Burdett’s safe in Keene of 40 dollars Thursday night. Frank E. Randall appointed special police justice at Pittsfield. Portsmouth’s new city government elected. all old officers re-elected except City Solicitor Foster. Farmers’ Club house near Farragut House Rye Beach opened with dancing and illumination. New Hampshire supreme court trial terms listed for multiple towns. Friday marked the last day of the state temperance camp meeting at the Weirs with addresses by Mrs. Mary A. Woodbury and Miss Lucia Kimball. Temperance officers elected for the year.
Seth Chase 14 of Wattsfield drowned while bathing in the Mad river. James H. Williams president of the National Bank of Bellows Falls lies at death’s door from pneumonia. Marion Hall of Holland has become so insane as to drive his family from home. Mrs Albert Hall, also insane, left home the 30th ult and was not found until two days later. A J Tucker of West Halifax, tannery proprietor, sent his son Arthur 20 to Brattleboro to cash a $200 check. he vanished after leaving a livery stable and has not been found as of last report.
Philetus Burnham of Lowell has resigned the general secretaryship of the Y M C A. Edward Donnelly's baby was poisoned by a Lowell drug clerk's carelessness. Mr Moody's meetings at Northfield draw attendees from afar, including visitors from Canada and Wyoming Valley, Pa. John Blakie, escaping reform school, attempted to wreck a Northern Division Qid Colony railroad engine near Sherborn by placing a 100 pound stone on the track. He climbed a tree to watch and was arrested.
Edward Kelton, while shingling the Pawtucket school house, fell from a staging Friday and died. In Providence, the Base Ball association officers resigned at a Friday meeting and new officers were elected. Two Coventry boys, ages five and nine, sons of Martin Fitzpatrick and Jerry Riley, were found buried in a sand pit after a night search.
It is alleged Lawrence Yorker of Kent ran off Saturday night July 30 with Mrs. Sarah Graves wife of a Chicago drummer living in Kent while her spouse was away. Graves mortgaged a Kent property for about 200 dollars, the couple’s apparent savings. Citizens doubt the pair fled far as Mrs. Graves was spotted in Norfolk awaiting a train, suggesting they may not actually go out west.
The Rye station collision on the New York New Haven and Hartford line July 28 1881 led to a verdict blaming the train crews for negligence and charging railroad officers with failing to enforce rules. Candidates must be 14 to 18 and arrive at Annapolis on September 22 for admission.
William Gill completed a four act drama titled My Sweetheart for Minnie Palmer with John R. Rogers managing her affairs for five years. The New York critic praises its plot and dialogue and Palmer shines as Fina a farmer's daughter. The cast includes Robert Graham and a strong company. The open season features multiple engagements at Boston Museum and Rice Goodwin company. The season starts Aug. 29 in Providence with Rice’s Surprise Party repertoire and major theater openings in New York venues.
A three day Biddeford police court record shows multiple intoxication fines from Aug. 6 to Aug. 11, with charges including assault and battery and loot-related cases. Several defendants paid fines and costs, while two pleaded not guilty to a search and seizure case that resulted in a $100 penalty.
