Referendum plan rejected by International Typographical Union

The International Typographical Union vetoed referendum proposals to put constitutional amendments and tax-related laws to all members. Delegates seated contested members, and the laws committee will remain in continuous session to decide on pension and insurance issues. The convention heard from Henry Russell Wray on sanitary conditions in composing rooms, and James J. Freel praised the eight hour day and union strength. Minnesota’s governor invited the 1909 convention to Minneapolis, with nominations to follow. A Taunton donor offered to help raise 1 million dollars for the Printers Home.
