Grand Celebration for Atlantic Cable Lay at Mount Kearsage
Correspondence from North Conway dated August 7 1858 describes a town celebration in honor of the laying of the Atlantic cable. Deacon Greeley led a horn announced procession of 24 carriages with 200 to 300 people, displaying banners and bright apparel in a colorful display from the Kearsage House vicinity. The event featured a telegraphic message carried by Mr Merrill and guests from New Hampshire.
