Bondsmen of liquor dealers prosecuted in Rhode Island
Providence reports Attorney General Rogers has begun prosecuting bondsmen of liquor dealers who failed to plead in scire facias suits. About 60 bondsmen represent 175 liquor dealers. Seven have been arrested. three paid $300 bonds, four refused and faced potential imprisonment or county bail after 30 days. The poorest debtor faces $16,000 in debts.

A mixed train on the Fairland branch of the Cincinnati Indianapolis St Louis and Chicago line derailed near Morgantown due to a broken rail. The baggage car and passenger coach plunged down a thirty foot embankment with one survivor. Dozens were injured including conductors,a watchman and multiple passengers across Indianapolis Martinsville Rushville Morgantown and Louisville. One passenger Charles Rekert of Indianapolis had an arm severed and a badly cut face. his prognosis was grim.

Storm Hits Washington Telegraph Wires Fail in Heat
A fierce late afternoon storm in Washington from the southwest caused major damage. Winds nearly gale strength unroofed small buildings and uprooted trees while telegraph wires into and from the city went dead. The heat reached 98 degrees. One man died from heat, grocery clerk John A. Darne, and several others, including postal workers, were overcome and hospitalized in critical condition.

Providence Hero Dies Saving Others From Acid Fire
Walter B. Randall, 29, an electr opcator for Schuitz & Co., died after absorbing nitric acid fumes to protect workers at a Jewelry firm on Friendship and Dorrance streets. Ninety girls on the sixth floor fled while men labored below as the carboy broke releasing corrosive liquid. Randall wrapped ashes in a towel to absorb the acid, inhaled fumes, and later died after coughing blood. Patrick Lavalle and Isaac Meister suffered inhalation effects. Lavalle remains critically ill at home.
