Ousted preacher faces beach fire clash at Revere

Amid a massive Revere Beach blaze 100000 spectators watched as the Old Mill and American House burned and Johnstown Flood was saved. Protests followed when Rev J P Bixby attempted Sunday services on the beach, ousted by proprietors John Hurley and Arthur Kirby who opposed religious gatherings near their properties.

Old Mill Building Left in Ruins After Blaze

A fire broke out early yesterday in Tyler's automobile shed causing total destruction and $2690 in damages. Spontaneous combustion sparked the blaze as Tyler, emerging with singed hair and burned hands, rushed back into the flames to save his machine before neighbors and a local physician treated him.

Drowned by Anchor Fluke On Marblehead Yacht

Frank Mace of Marblehead, 22, was drowned when the anchor fluke caught in his blouse and pulled him overboard from the yacht Louise. A four person party including Mr and Mrs Samuel Howard and John Howard sailed south toward Norman's Wee. Rescue efforts failed and a diver was planned for the following morning.

Ville Franche France Aug 7 The United States European squadron commanded by Rear Admiral C T Jewell sailed to Smyrna to await Washington instructions on Minister Leishman’s demand that the Sultan grant the United States rights similar to other nations to establish schools in Asia Minor.

Rio Grande Train Wreck Drowns Dozens Near Pueblo

At Pinon Colorado a Rio Grande passenger train crashed through a weakened bridge after heavy rain. The engine and five coaches derailed. 30 to 50 people, mostly Pueblo residents, are reported drowned. Volunteers swarm Pueblo to aid at the scene.

French Arsenal Ablaze At Joulon

Fire at midnight at the French arsenal in Joulon rapidly spread threatening whole blocks. Troops assembled in the streets while the prefect and naval officers coordinated aid and pumps. A reserve squadron joined the effort as the population woke to the blaze.

Launch Explosion Drowns Man Near Crescent Beach

Merton Ladd, 26, blown from a naphtha launch and drowned off Crescent Beach near the Bay State Club house. Arthur Nichols, 16, also blown overboard but swam ashore. Explosion occurred while leaking naphtha was being inspected with a sighted match. Police and park officers searched for Ladd’s body through the night. Nichols, an employee of the New England Telephone Company inspector, was visiting with his wife at 115 Boulevard, Revere Beach. Nichols lives on Beachmont.
