In Hartford Aug 7 the Democratic State Committee and Liberal Republicans met to form a joint electoral ticket and canvass. Ex governors English and Cleveland spoke alongside David Clark and David A. Wells. Wells praised the union as 4000 Connecticut Republicans joined the Liberal cause.

Fire devastates world’s largest fair in Niji-Novgorod

A St. Petersburg despatch reports a massive blaze at Niji-Novgorod during its vast July fair on the Volga's right bank. Immense goods are destroyed and authorities struggle to halt the spreading flames as fears grow the fair grounds may be wiped out before containment.
