Nelson Kent sacrifices life saving chum in pond accident
In Lynn on August 6 Nelson Kent aged 15, the son of a shoe factory foreman, drowned while rescuing his school friend Edward Boyer aged 14 at Sluice Pond. Boyer was saved by H O Higginson after Kent pulled free the eel grass snagging him. Boyer recovered consciousness and urged rescue for Kent before police recovered the body an hour later. The boys had grown up together and often camped at the pond.

Dr. Julian P. Thomas and Roy Knabenshue flew from New York City to Brant Rock Mass covering 225 miles in 16 hours 20 minutes with one stop at Noank Conn for breakfast and water. The ascent from Union Gas Works at 113th Street proceeded at 8 p m under a southwest wind. The pair tested a new guide rope and water anchor, landing at Brant Rock at 12 20 a m.
