Obituary of Hon. Joshua E Crane Bridgewater Leader and Politician
The Hon. Joshua E. Crane, Bridgewater’s longtime prominent citizen and former Massachusetts state senator, died unexpectedly from heart disease after a morning collapse while walking to church. Born July 9, 1823 in Berkeley, Massachusetts, he built a lifelong career in Bridgewater, served in the state House in 1857 and Senate in 1862-63, directed the Bridgewater Savings Bank, and held many local offices. He helped found the Liberty Party in 1844, served as town clerk and treasurer, contributed to the Plymouth County Agricultural Society, and left six children. Funeral is scheduled for 10 o’clock tomorrow.
