Woman Seized and Bound in Lodging House Assault

Miss Hattie Bond writing a receipt for room hire when a man struck her with a blackjack in Union Park lodging house. He gagged and bound her wrists with towels before fleeing. Police suspect the same thief robbed the house previously.

A detailed description of a robber who assaulted Miss Hattie Bond at a lodging house is published. The man is described as about 3 percent eight old, seven feet tall, dark complexion with a heavy black mustache and gold tooth. He wore a light spring overcoat, blue washable tie, torn collar, spotless linen, a silver snake ring, and shabby shoes. The thief used a desk key to reach a cash box and stole money, five gold rings, bracelets, and seven Columbian half dollars.

Flanagan Wins Hammer Throw at New York Meet

At Ridgewood Park Brooklyn under Amateur Athletic Union rules four world champions entered the Irish National Alliance event. John Flanagan, famed for throwing a 16-pound hammer far beyond others, highlighted the field with strong distances while Tom Burke of Boston University and B F Weters also competed. Weather improved as the crowd grew to about 3000, though the track remained fair. Weters did not start the 100 yard race, gave an exhibition instead, and Burke lost the 440 yard to Jerome Buck after leading early.
