Miss Hattie Bond writing a receipt for room hire when a man struck her with a blackjack in Union Park lodging house. He gagged and bound her wrists with towels before fleeing. Police suspect the same thief robbed the house previously.
A detailed description of a robber who assaulted Miss Hattie Bond at a lodging house is published. The man is described as about 3 percent eight old, seven feet tall, dark complexion with a heavy black mustache and gold tooth. He wore a light spring overcoat, blue washable tie, torn collar, spotless linen, a silver snake ring, and shabby shoes. The thief used a desk key to reach a cash box and stole money, five gold rings, bracelets, and seven Columbian half dollars.
Tonight's programme includes a cornet solo by Conductor R L Reinewald of the Lynn Brass Band, engaged for a free concert by the Massachusetts Clothing Company. The twelve selections open with Sousa's El Capitan, setting a lively tone for the event at the Hanover and Portland streets building.

Fair conditions forecast for Friday in New England and eastern New York with northwest winds. Winds become variable by Saturday.
A policyholders committee in New York voted to hire counsel for mutual action and to negotiate reinsurance. The committee represents $1,250,000 in insurance and asks all shoe policyholders to submit names ages current addresses and policy amounts by August to the committee chairman.
A retail listing advertises men’s white duck trousers in all sizes with regular price of $1.60 each. The items show signs of wear described as soiled and offered at reduced pricing.
In Barbers' alley two Italians, Emperatore Damiano and Giuseppi de Lucca, fought after a card game dispute. De Lucca, 18, fatally wounded Damiano with a gun after multiple knife blows left both badly injured. Damiano, 89, is hospitalized with a dangerous abdomen wound. De Lucca, 18, also injured, will face assault with intent to kill charges.
A Chicago grain elevator fire at Cook and West Water Streets caused seven deaths with three firemen killed and others injured. The blast followed by a soaring boiler or dust explosion tore through the Northwestern facility as firemen attempted to combat the blaze.
Middlesex mills that produce woollen goods will shut down in all departments from August 6 to August 23 for necessary repairs, according to Agent Saunders.
