Terrific cyclone strikes Lawrence in evening storm

A cyclonic wind storm hit Lawrence around 7 PM causing widespread damage. Streets were littered with debris, trees fell, electric service and alarm wires were knocked out, and many buildings lost their roofs. Police and fire crews responded to the disruption.

Seven Infants Rescued From Swampscott Fire

Seven infants were saved as a fire at the Florence Crittenton home on Essex Street endangered the nursery. Eight firefighters were overcome by smoke. the rear of the building was gutted with an estimated loss of seven thousand dollars. Fire units from Lynn aided the Swampscott department to prevent spread to nearby lumber company properties.

Fire at Salem children’s home leads to eight firefighters overcome

Mrs Paula Tibbeau a visitor discovered the blaze in the Salem reception area and later rescued her child from the nursery. Nurses and Eva Hunt assisted in evacuation. eight local firefighters were overcome inside the building. The fire spread from a rear attic to the roof, threatening Swampscott Lumber yard before Lynn crews aided containment. An incendiary origin is suspected after a rubbish blaze was found in the cellar.

Storm Damage Heavy Over Western Mass
