Court charges jurors as to felonies and accomplices
The court session opened with Judge Pitman explaining misdemeanor versus felony. He noted accomplices in felonies receive punishment by degree of connivance and described jury instructions on identifying principal acts, timing, and corroboration. The panel debated verdicts, with eight to four for conviction at one point, then discharged for the term. The text then lists officers and commanders of the First Battalion of Light Artillery, Cavalry, and Infantry, including names, ranks, and posts in Boston and surrounding towns.

United States marshal probes suspected foreign recruitment effort
United States Marshal Seymour arrived in Fall River after learning a party of about fifty men planned to depart for foreign service. A warrant was issued for arrest on enlistment on US soil with intent to join a foreign power, but the group reportedly sailed earlier on the schooner H. K. Brown. Newport officials stated no such party reached their waters, and a rendezvous rumor near there was unfounded. Swampscott regatta drew boats under 20 feet with several local entries and prizes awarded to Maud, Stephen A. Lowell, and Nora.
