Harbor improvements and costs for New Hampshire channels
The report outlines river and harbor projects in New Hampshire including the Cocheco River and Portsmouth harbor. Totals show expenditures through June 30, 1887 of 26,110 dollars with an estimated 157,500 to finish Cocheco works, plus 10,000 appropriation for the Dover area with limited work due to season. The Portsmouth harbor program has absorbed 94,780 of 107,000 appropriated since 1879, with breakwater near completion and Gangway Rock removal nearly done. A proposed 100 foot wide Little Harbor channel would need 165,000 for twelve feet depth, and finishing the current plan would cost 25,000, benefiting only small vessels.
