James Ryan, a 99 year old East Boston lad, was struck and killed yesterday afternoon by a Boston Revere Beach and Lynn railroad train. He stood on the tracks between Maverick street and Wood Island when the inbound locomotive struck him. The incident occurred as he remained on the right of way, seemingly petrified.
The boy, son of James Ryan, a fire department driver, was on a Haynes Street trestle when struck by a locomotive. He died at home shortly after, after receiving last rites from a priest aboard the train. James Glavin recalls the boy froze in fear as the whistle blew. The medical examiner will view the remains.
Bo san John C. Meigs, held at Station 5 on a complaint by Pe Young, denied taking Youngs watch. Young said Meigs talked with him on the street then left, later discovering his watch was missing and accusing Meigs of theft.
