A seismic sequence in Los Alamos valley Santa Barbara county tears a 15 by 4 mile strip, leaving a village in ruins. A church collapsed, all brick buildings fell, telegraph lines broke, and property losses reach at least 30000 dollars as residents flee by train and road.
Bert G Pratt of 6 Dwight Street Boston was brought to the city from Lexington in an insane frenzy. He fought patrolmen, torn clothing and bleeding, then was placed in a padded cell at the city prison after a wild episode aboard a moving train.
Willard C VanDerlip, longtime trustee of several estates, is charged with embezzling $200,000. A warrant for his arrest was to be sought. He told the Post last night that the defalcation was about $100,000 and that he has offered real estate and cash to settle, hoping to pay the balance.

An explosion at Mt Kimbla colliery in Wollongong, 40 miles from Sydney, has caused heavy loss of life. Twenty seven bodies recovered, 149 miners rescued, 100 still entombed. The pit mouth buildings wrecked and part of the colliery on fire.
Frank Billings 50 of 23 Bowdoin Street Boston, a Roxbury union member, was run over by a train at the depot while returning from a firemen's playout. He underwent amputation of the left leg at the thigh at St. John's Hospital and is not expected to recover.

Miss Anna D. Collier of Worcester and Miss Jean Brown of Detroit, summer guests at Bayside, drowned in strong undertow while swimming. Miss Christina McAdam of Detroit survived. volunteers aided, with Charles and Fred Middleton praised for rescue efforts. Brown's body reached Detroit later. Collier died on shore despite revival attempts.
A boat capsized on the Kennebago River in Phillips Maine killing three of four aboard. The deceased are Mrs Paul Virgin Tom Paradise and Leon Martin. Surviving passenger is Mrs Virgin’s husband.

In one of the largest general transfers in years, two captains, two lieutenants, 18 sergeants and over 100 patrolmen and reserve officers were moved last night. The roll call starts the changes at Stations 1 and 12, with Hoffman and Swan reassigned, and Kimball joining Station 1 alongside Burnett.
