Lieutenant Chapman Killed While Responding to Fire
William H. Chapman a Boston fire department veteran of twenty five years was promoted to lieutenant yesterday. He died last night at 11 15 after falling from Engine 1’s seat near Dorchester and Fourth streets the wheels passing over him. Mrs Chapman and young Eddie witnessed the tragedy and the surrounding fire scene as the family faced sudden ruin. The fire occurred at a two story stable behind 297 Fourth street owned by Margaret Haverson. Chapman leaves a widow two sons and siblings in the fire service.

Alexander Patterson aged 64 of 37 Caroll street Chelsea was found dead at his home around 9 35 p m yesterday with a laudanum bottle beside him. A native of Sweden he ran a variety store at 800 Broadway Chelsea and, after speculative losses, became despondent about finances.
