Rescue by City Point crew saves aeroplane official

Prompt action by City Point life saving crew last night saved Grover C. Loernig, vice-president of the aeroplane manufacturing branch of the B. F. Sturtevant Company, who fell into the bay from a hydro aeroplane made for the United States Army.

Hydro plane flight near Squantum ends with halt

A government ordered hydro airplane from the B F Sturtevant Co moved from South Boston beach toward Squantum after a 45 minute delay caused by engine issues. The craft lifted then returned toward City Point and circled the life saving station before settling near the Squantum shoreline.

Engineer killed by own engine on beam trawler Long Island

William Wickett, chief engineer on the Long Island owned by Trident Fisheries, was ground to pieces under the steamer engine at Commonwealth pier Boston. He was 45 and lived with his wife at 217 Webster Street East Boston. He was a well known marine engineer on the New England coast.

Wickett heard a thumping in the engine and descended to investigate. His assistant Ernest Nichols found him dead beneath the high pressure cylinder crank, the engine having seized and pulled him into the pit.
