The Naval Brigade signal station at Highland Light faces exposure as their lone tent was blown to pieces by strong northeast winds today.
Secretary Gage met with New York bankers at the sub treasury discussing a 3 percent bond rate and a possible 200 million issue. Financiers favored rates around 3.5, with some at 3 percent, and discussed placing bonds in European markets. Treasury resources totaled 500 million with anticipated shortfalls from internal and customs receipts.
Eastport dispatch says cruiser Minneapolis is sailing for Cape Sable to hunt two Spanish steamers due at a Nova Scotia port within days. Passengers include Senor Arturo Baldassano y Topete, ex Spanish consul general of New York, who traveled via the Canadian Pacific to Toronto and then departed on the Gallia for Liverpool en route to Madrid.
Washington April 27. The conference on the naval appropriation bill met and reviewed the measure for several hours.
