Fun and death by trolley wire tragedy in South Boston
Michael Sweeney eighteen was killed while handling a live trolley wire on E Street near Eighth Street in South Boston. George Chapman and several boys aged eleven to fourteen assisted in looping a telegraph wire onto a West End Railway line. Sweeney grasped the live wire, was stunned, and died at Alfred Moran's drug store. Firemen cut the wire. witnesses include John White. The group had been amusing themselves by snagging hats with a stretched wire, planning broader shocks for inebriated passersby.
