Patrick H. McCann, brother-in-law of Richard Croker and linked to Tammany, testifies he was ousted from a Mt St Vincent restaurant lease by Mayor Grant and Croker. He alleges Croker showed him $180,000 in 1884 to aid Hugh Grant’s public works confirmation, and that Grant contributed funds to Croker’s house purchase. He describes pressures on Croker’s family and a rift with Grant begun in 1886 over shared rumors.
