Police conducted about ten raids after city orders and Mayor French warnings led to closures of alleged vice rooms and lighting darkened in many venues. Only one raid yielded evidence, while other suspected sites shut down willingly.
Otis Sawyer of Montclair New Jersey was found in Lakeville Connecticut where divers located his body about sixty yards from shore. Captain Evarts reported the body surfaced tied to an object with glasses in hand and in good preservation. The body was prepared for shipment to New York.
The Central Labor Union calls a strike against Hood Rubber Company in Watertown affecting about 1000 workers, 450 of them women, over alleged favoritism by foreman Richard Pierce. After three days of arbitration talks with no agreement, strikers say wage was not the issue and accuse management of biased treatment toward new hires, including Armenians.
In Liverpool Mr Decatur M Sawyer, who crossed the Atlantic to tell his wife first of their son's drowning in Lakeville Connecticut, reunites with his wife and daughter as she leaves the Majestic steamer and heads to London.
The Cuban constitutional committee met the President at a state dinner at the White House. Guests included top U.S. officials and distinguished representatives. The event highlighted ongoing relations between the two nations.
A planned strike by Cape Ann stone workers near Gloucester that could affect about 1000 men was averted after talks between the Stone Workers Union committee and Charles Rogers of the Rockport Granite Company. Rogers said a strike would likely be avoided as both sides agreed to concessions and maintained friendly relations. he noted wages would not rise while the industry has not fully recovered from the last strike.
In a second ruling, Crogan's dying accusations against Eastman were ruled inadmissible. Mary Milner, nurse to Crogan, testified for the government but aided Eastman’s defense. Other witnesses placed near Crogan at death supported the defense as the case moves toward continuation on page four.
