Roosevelt Real Issue of Primary

Mail theft probe underway after Boston bound pouch stolen

The post office inspection department notified of the theft and sent Inspector Rice from the Boston office to investigate. Stoughton police Chief Vanston says he has evidence likely to lead to an arrest within 24 hours. The Stoughton Trust Company notes only non negotiable paper was taken, with no loss expected. The theft involved a mail pouch from Stoughton to Boston, sealed at the post office, then left on a railroad platform. Checks and notes were destined for a Boston clearing house and treasurer Frederick D. Leonard says precautions are in place to prevent payment on the stolen checks.
