Titanic Inquiry Testimony Details Lifeboat Absences and Rescue
Eyewitness accounts describe lifeboat loading on the starboard side, delayed actions, and rescue efforts as the Titanic sank. Officers Murdock Lightoller and Hichens recount guarding passengers, lowering boats, and searching for survivors amid dawn light.
Titanic Survivor Hichens Testimony At Senate Hearing
Hichens described tying lifeboats together and awaiting Carpathia as seas grew rough. He denied insulting Mrs Meyer and said he could not rescue others due to distance and lack of compass. He explained keeping away from Titanic to avoid suction and stated he might return to England tomorrow if needed. The hearing adjourned at 6 20 between witnesses.
