In Salem this afternoon in Superior Court Judge Hardy granted Mrs Tom Pierce an absolute divorce from husband Thomas W Pierce of Topsfield. The quick trial, lasting under twenty minutes, did not address child custody or alimony with plans for future settlement.
John J. Kelly testifies to repeated cruelty by Mr. Pierce toward his wife Alice Rogers Pierce. He describes beating and pushing her, including a 1904 stable assault, witnessed by several. Mrs. Pierce recalls their marriage in 1899 and leaving in spring, with a divorce for cruelty granted by Judge Hardy.
Saturday Sunday and holiday trolley service operates on the Boston and Worcester line. Cars depart Park Square every 15 minutes with additional cars at Chestnut Hill to connect with the subway.

In Oil City Pennsylvania on April 24 Thad deus Stevens Ross was shot three times and killed in Dr George W Magee's office. The shooter Miss Belle Stroup then killed herself. Ross was due to marry Drusilla Sampsell that night. No witnesses. Both families prominent. The killer was a former sweetheart of the deceased.
Michael J. Cunningham, 23, of 38 Fifth Street South Boston, shot by a strike-breaker near A and Binford streets. A strike-breaker fires on a crowd of school boys on Granite Street. A guard draws a weapon on a crowd near Congress Street close to the Joy Line wharf where the Zealandia steamer is moored.
Ross and Miss Stroup were found dead in Dr Magee’s office after a visit from Miss Stroup who traveled from Bradford. Ross appeared to have returned from chat with her before being shot in the neck and heart while seated. Stroup lay nearby with a wound, blocking the door. The motive remains unknown.
All firms covered by the strike dispatched nearly all their crews. The steamer Zealandia relocated from Boston Wharf to the Joy Line pier on Congress street. About 160 new men were brought to Boston from New York and other cities, while nearly 75 deserted. Police detail was reduced but expected to be increased today.
