Halifax reports the Halifax steamer carried Detec tive McAulay of New York and Mr Somers along with Henry Hardie the extradited forger. From Lima dated March 21 a Comericio report describes fearful landslides along the Oroy route tunnels used to span the chasm for the Verrugas bridge. A cloud burst ripped rocks and earth into the valley, sweeping the 575 foot long, 260 foot high bridge into destruction. The bridge cost 500000 dollars and was, at the time, one of the world s highest until a higher structure was built in the United States.
