Washington April 24 special five patents were issued to Elias E Ries of Baltimore for electric heating apparatus. Two cover heating railway cars and Ries says they are the only practical means of safe heating and fire prevention. One design attaches a dynamo to the axle and on a downgrade generates heat for four hours. A secondary battery stores electricity for lighting as well as heating.
