Expelled from Cuba as Patriots Fight in Havana Province

In Havana region April 23 orders were issued to expel George Aguirre a naturalized American. Enrico Palma Mizard an Italian and Mariana Flamand a Frenchwoman jailed at Santiago de Cuba for aiding patriots. In Purgatorio Havana province fighting left sixteen patriots dead and many wounded. Spaniards suffered sixteen wounded. A factory at 11 Rand Street owned by Charles F. Lord and used by John Lane as a slipper works burned with losses around $19,000 in stock and finished goods and $6,000 in machinery and building.

Gloucester City Marshall Fight Ends in Confirmation

In Gloucester on April 23 Mayor Cook failed to have his marshal nominee confirmed. After a recess the board adjourned and a special meeting confirmed John Karcher as city marshal. Incumbent Parsons refused to vacate, signaling a protracted legal dispute ahead.

Razor found in rear of residence in Kelley case

In Somersworth New Hampshire on April 23 the weapon Kelley used to fatally strike Cashier Stickney was located in a residence rear yard near Winter Street. The razor, bloodstained and damaged, is believed to have been dropped after the attack. Kelley is to be arraigned at 9 AM in City Hall as detectives continue the investigation.
