William T. Stead’s appearance at Harvard Union causes an uproar as 800 students cheer a volatile clash between Professors James and Munsterberg over Stead’s proposition. Women gain admission to the lecture for the first time in Harvard history.
Mr. Stead urged a European peace pilgrimage proposing 12 leading Americans meet 12 Englishmen to travel Europe, gather 12 leaders from each nation, and march to The Hague to advocate peace. A spectator offense and cheers followed his provocative prompt for voices in the debate.
L. K. Bannigan moved to appoint a committee to confer with Mr. Stead on starting the pilgrimage. Professor Munsterberg objected that the meeting was unofficial and declined responsibility. Professor James then rose, drawing keen attention from the hall.

A major motor failure at the Hawkins Street Edison Light plant left Beacon Hill and parts of the West End in darkness for most of the night. The affected area stretched from Pemberton Square to Bowdoin Square, with repairs ongoing since about 6:30 PM and not completed by midnight.
Paul C. Mason editor of the Telegraph and Pioneer in Chelsea was arrested last night by Mayor Willard on criminal libel charges. He was released on bail and reports say he will answer in Chelsea Court this morning. The arrest stirred political circles and chatter across the city.

Mary A. E. Reynolds of Chicago Illinois signs a testimonial praising Father John’s Medicine as not patent medicine and claims it made her well after doctors allegedly gave her three days to live. The notice cites 2410 117 Street Chicago IN and asserts fifty years of use.
Ex Governor William L. Douglas met with William J. Bryan at the Mayors' Club of Massachusetts dinner in the American House. Douglas said the discussion centered on tariff questions and nothing more. Bryan avoided detailing other topics or the state political situation.
George Fred Williams downplays political meaning of the gathering with William Jennings Bryan at a non partisan Brockton club. In corridors Bryan is linked to 1908 vice presidential prospects while praising unity and the necessity of both radical and conservative forces in politics.
A 12 year old pupil Albert Rasmussen of Tileston Grammar School was run over and killed by a car driven by W. T. Costello of Malden at Mattapan square. The car left the scene briefly before the chauffeur returned and two men carried the boy to the Mattapan police sub station. A doctor said death was instantaneous from a fractured skull.
A boy named Albert Rasmussen was struck and killed while crossing Blue Hill Avenue as he attempted to sell a paper. Witnesses say driver Costello kept to precautionary speed, and Captain Hunt began an investigation with findings to continue today. The boy’s parents reside at 40 Hiawatha road Dorchester and his father L M Rasmussen is an interior decorator.
Bonds alleged stolen from the Trust Company of America were found today hidden in a mattress in the room of Wall Street broker O M Dennett at the exclusive Manhattan Club. Dennett, a former Boston businessman, hosted the Trust Company clerk William O Douglass at the club over the weekend. The recovered bonds are valued in the thousands, with more still missing from Douglass confession. Pinkertons and detectives traced the confession to the recovery.
A passerby discovered ten cases of dynamite totaling about 1000 pounds in the rear of a democrat wagon at the stable of E. G. Tutein & Co. at Orleans and Decatur streets East Boston. No guard was present and the wagon stood unprotected amid frame tenements.
Dennett a club member took Douglass and Mrs Douglass to Grand Central and Portland after a late Saturday night. A man known to police accompanied them. Detectives searched Dennett’s room and the South Orange home finding stock certificates hidden in a hair mattress. O Douglass, an assistant loan clerk, left the Trust Company of America and $50,000 in Rock Island bonds vanished from collateral. He was found at Hotel Portland with his wife under an assumed name. Police and bank officials confronted him at about 3 am.
Strikers discover a loaded dynamite crate in a wagon tied to Lewis' Wharf and drive it to a stable in East Boston. Police and fire crews order removal, but late night panic grips the area as a boy driver and another youth allegedly fail to deliver the explosive. E. G. Tutein & Co. is linked to the situation amid a big teamsters strike.
In Middleboro on April 22 a widespread blaze from Mt. Carmel to Nemasket roared through six thousand acres. Homes of Edgar C. Sturtevant and Fred Orcutt were destroyed along with barns and contents. The Grover Bennett place, over a century old, burned completely. The New York New Haven Hartford Railway sent many workers and dig crews to fight the fire. The blaze moved north toward Plympton as locals labored through midnight to prevent further losses. Farmers from Nemasket Eddyville Plympton Warrenton Rock Village and Lakeville suffered, with expected losses running into hundreds of thousands.

Firefighters battle fierce flames over six thousand acres. wind shifts raise alarm and trains slow as embers threaten passing cars. Heavy losses fall on George H. Wilbur and Chester Weston with several large tracts damaged.
In Houston Maine Judge Spear presides as jury in Mexican Juan Robens murder trial fails to reach a verdict by early morning. Jurors deliberated since forenoon after closing statements and reconvened, with no immediate agreement expected.
