Death Ends Suffering of Local Employee at Roxbury Home

Graham Carey 21 died at his Roxbury residence after a brief illness of heart failure. Mourners include his mother and Rev Father James Walsh who performed last rites. Carey worked as a book keeper at New England Piano Company. burial set for Wednesday at St Patrick’s Roxbury with Requiem Mass at Calvary family lot.

President Rewards for Rescue Rewarded by President Cleveland

The London Board of Trade received a binoc ular glass awarded by President Cleveland to Captain W. Thompson master of the British steamer Durham City of West Hartlepool for rescuing the officers and crew of the American schooner Alice T. Boardman in Massachusetts Bay on Oct 6 1894. The Boardman was later towed to Gloucester by a fishing schooner. The salvage award settlement sparked much litigation.

The Roxbury Woman Suffrage League held its regular monthly meeting Saturday afternoon at Mrs Robert F Ford's residence 10 Walnut Avenue. The discussion centered on the Boston Bibway with Dr Zakrzewska reading a paper on stand rentals by Mr Charles Sprague of Illinois showing their discouraging effects on the industrious poor in that state. Refreshments were served by the hostess.

William H Sutherland William B Jewell and William H Farnsworth and William Conroy faced Municipal Court on March 16 for assault in a Harrison avenue Chinese restaurant. Two Chinese waiters and Patrolman Shea were hurt. Hep Way Wong Bing were victims. Sutherland Jewell and Farnsworth found guilty of assault Hep Way and fined 10 dollars. A fishing schooner from Nantucket Shoals reported a foregaff mishap on April 14 near Hyannis. Examination of revenue cutter officers and engineers will occur at 9 o'clock this morning at 70 Long wharf. About twelve officers and fifteen Boston pilots attended funerals for Captain William H. Dolliver in Chelsea yesterday. The crew of the Roulette saved men from drowning near Castle Island and towed the lifeboat. Ships arriving include Steamer Gallina from Palermo with oranges and lemons, whaling schooner Joseph A. Manta with sperm oil, Bark Fred E. Scannell from Liverpool, and Independence from Pisagua. Sagamore arrived from Liverpool in 8 days 21 hours.
