The Bulletin reports the death of President Barrios of Guatemala in a clash with Ben Salvadorans. Barrios left his tent to lead the front when he was shot by a sharpshooter, the bullet piercing his windward shoulder and heart as troops refused to obey an unpopular colonel.
A former governess Alice Saarfield sues Ross R. Winans for divorce alleging they met in Eng land and lived in New York at the Brevoort and other hotels. She says he presented her as his wife, but no ceremony occurred, and he later left for England and married another woman. She moved to California with a man named O Keefe, then retracted claim, and testified before Justice Ingraham with Stephen P. Nash appointed to take testimony.
The Connecticut River rises rapidly in Lancaster New Hampshire as thermometers reach 50 in the shade. Sugar making is reported finished two weeks early and a late April thaw disrupts travel in Vermont towns with snowdrifts up to six feet in places.
Coroner exhumed two infant bodies buried in a shoe box in the rear yard of Frank Lenz in Jamaica L I. The twins, born alive, lived for a time according to a mid wife who testified Mrs Lenz gave birth to twins later told by Samuel W Bingham and Caroline S Moulton as administrators that the twins were dead and buried. Meanwhile a $50 000 suit against Marine National Bank ended with a verdict for plaintiffs at $53 887 in the supreme court. The Guion line steamer Wisconsin reached port with about 200 English Welsh and preachers converted to Mormonism aboard.
Abington Mass April 22 The Plymouth District Medical Society held its annual meeting selecting Dr. F Collermore of Pem broke as president and Dr. H F Borden of Brockton as vice president Dr J Bacon of Brockton secretary and treasurer Dr A A McKien of South Abington librarian and other appointments Dr J Gleason of Reckland serves as orator The next meeting will be held at Newport July 22
The Connecticut General Assembly adjourns sine die until Thursday at 2 PM. A homestead act exempts $1000 in owner-occupied real estate from attachment. A bureau of flavor statistics bill passes both houses but is amended to set a two year term for a commissioner.
In York on April 22 great excitement followed news that Maud McAllister aged 15 married F Darl ang 19 and Ella Jones 17 married Charles L Peckham 9 with no parental consent. The brides gave fictitious ages to clergymen. the couples are skaters with no visible means of support. Parents plan divorce proceedings.
In Oakland Maine on April 22 a fan oriel bicycle stunt ended with a bolt pulling free from the elevated wire. John P. De Pome and John G. Bardisth on the trapeze were badly hurt. De Coma suffered a severe head cut and other injuries, Bardisth internal injuries unclear, rider on the bicycle uninjured.
The Pennsylvania Railroad east of Pittsburg and Erie reports March 1885 net earnings down by 243 442 compared with 1884. For the first quarter of 1885 the company shows a deficit of 713 093 versus 1884. All lines west of Pittsburg and Erie also show a quarterly deficiency of 520 240 against 3284.
Judge Shipman in the U S district court named Gen Edward Harland of Norwich as receiver for the American Rapid Telegraph Co. Bond set at 50000 dollars. The appointment follows a petition filed by the Boston Trust and Safe Deposit Company and defines the receiver's powers.
Mr. Chas. W. Warner spoke at the government building on prison discipline to a good audience. Mrs. Julia Ward Howe predicted the topic would be considered at a future conference, noting the strong interest it awakened.

Anna Peck, four, of 750 Albany street, suffered severe burns after her lace collar caught fire on a Tuesday afternoon. John ONeill was arrested Wednesday for assault and battery on a policeman. Officers Bench and Rowean arrested Dennis Crowley and Mary Gorman for complicity in larceny from James Smith of 79 Albion street. Murdough and Lynch arrested Joe Collahan, 16, for breaking and entering a dwelling of Robert Faulkner on 12 Truro street. Callahan is charged with complicity with John Purcell and James Sullivan, already under arrest.
The committee completed its inquiry into Lieut. Loring Burrill and Patrolman John H. McKenney. It found both engaged in a brawl at the coliseum during the Grand Army fair and ordered a two week salary forfeiture starting April 20. McKenney’s domestic assault charge was not sustained. Officer Charles H. Gilman faces suspension pending an intoxication investigation.
In Brockton on April 22 a special aldermanic meeting heard a petition from the Brockton and South Abington Street Railway associates seeking permission to lay track along the street from Kingman Avenue through the area.
About 25 members of the American Water Works Association attended a morning session at the Boston water works yard to see the Deacon meter and waste detector. The day featured papers on pumping engines cast iron pipe and street mains, plus humorous sketches on plumbing, with officers elected and a harbor trip planned for the afternoon including Deer Island and Moon Island visits.
Greenwich Connecticut April 22 Coroner Hall of Bridgeport opens inquest into the Johnson family killings. Barclay Johnson shot his mother and sister and killed himself. Witnesses describe peculiar conduct and a possible mental disturbance accompanied by a handwritten suicide note seeking explanation.
The case on January 27, 1885 concerns a permit to sell about 42900 shares of Concord railroad stock or other holdings by the Northern railroad or its directors. The matter was postponed until next Wednesday forenoon without delay.
The Maria Smith church discipline trial continued at West Roxbury Congregational Vestry with about 100 people present. Witnesses described family tensions and ill treatment allegations while church leaders led the proceedings and the defense sought access for key relatives as the session adjourned awaiting further testimony.

Philadelphia Pullman Palace Car shops and adjacent railroad frame building burn loss $150 660 insured. Manchester Farrington burn valued at $1700 insured. New Ipswich Mrs Himer's house burned loss $500.
The Grange store safe in Amherst Massachusetts was blown open on Tuesday and $161 was taken. A 50 year old dock laborer Patrick McGuire was fatally crushed at New Haven Connecticut while unloading a coal boat on Wednesday. The Para Rubber Shoe Company of South Framingham restored a 10 percent wage cut across all departments on Tuesday. Mrs Ellen Clark of West Slaven Connecticut died from burns after her clothes caught fire while burning brush Tuesday evening. In Nashua New Hampshire officers of the second regiment National Guard met with W A Metcalf of Keene appointed lieutenant colonel and J E Tolles named major. Striking weavers at Nourse mill Woonsocket Rhode Island spoke with Social Company president who offered no treaty and the workers remained on strike. The ad touts G O Taylors Gid Bourbon and Pure Rye Whiskies in bottles from druggists and grocers.
A special stockholders meeting at the United States Hotel heard H A Blood outline a reorganization plan for the Central Massachusetts railroad, proposing to rename the line the Boston Hudson and Western and issue up to 7.6 million dollars in new stock with preferred dividends. He argued for a legislative act to enable exchange of current stock, pay land damages, and fund 60 miles of line toward Holyoke, Northampton, and beyond, with a formed committee to push the measure.
The common council's special committee met to investigate Patrick Maguire's charges against Edward I Jenkins, council president. Maguire refused to appear, citing court remedy, while council members debated issuing a subpoena and delaying until court action concludes.
In Princeton New Jersey April 22 the Bostons defeated the Princetons after an exciting game. Strong battery play and sharp fielding highlighted the contest as the Bostons posted 8 to 6 and claimed the win in a high quality matchup.

London reports a terrible eruption at Passarvean in east Java and fears about 100 lives lost. Despatches note Smerou mountain erupting near Puasarocan and Probolisgo with a large coffee plantation destroyed but no confirmed deaths there.

A Battleford message reports five mounted policemen arrived from Ft. Pitt after an attack by Indians. One policeman was killed and another wounded. remaining fort occupants, including Hudson Bay Factor Melecan, are accounted for. Communication with the west was restored via the government line.

Cap Mace's funeral took place at 2 o'clock on Wednesday in Bulfinch Place chapel with many friends and race patrons in attendance. Rev Samuel Winkley led the service and the Weber quartet provided music. Afterward the remains were taken to Winchester for interment attended by his sister Mrs Thomas W Fenton and others including John A Grecker and W Phillips.
