William Ignatius Flannery received five years in the State Prison from Justice Fessenden in the Superior Criminal Court after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of actor Fayette Welch at 10 six place on the morning of Sunday March 6. Flannery described his life and motives including stage work, family, and acquiring a pistol in Tacoma and Denver, with testimony about the shooting following the plea.

Maypen April 21 Democratic bolters from the Seventh District convention in Charlestown met at Stanwood Hall to decide whether to elect delegates opposing harmonizers or unite for Chicago. Joseph Mazzarki, known as the Egyptian Jew, was found guilty in general sessions of assault in the first degree for shooting Rev. Dr. H. P. Mendes, rabbi of the Nineteenth Street Synagogue on March 5 after demanding $100. Recorder Smythe sentenced him to ten years in State Prison, the maximum.
A powerful rainstorm swept through Mian Tennessee for a day causing widespread damage. Homes and bridges were lost and travel halted. Dr Bryant and two Black men are feared drowned. Washouts reported on the Louisville and Nashville railroad.
New Haven April 21 Captain James S Pettit of the First United States Infantry is ordered to relieve Lieutenant C A L Totten as professor of military science in the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale University. Totten will join his battery of the Fourth United States Artillery. The change takes effect August 1.
