Mrs Jacques Futrelle was placed in lifeboats five times and fought back each time to reach her husband only when he suggested he might survive alone. She recalled steerage men fighting for the boat and, after the craft rowed away, saw a body she believed was her husband Jack, begging the crew to pursue it, but it was not him.
