Four leading Boston physicians confront a rare disease with a life at stake as ex-Assistant United States District Attorney Bordman Hall lies between life and death at his Brookline home. After repeated tests and cultures, doctors identify a malady known in only five medical jurisprudence cases, all of which ended in death.
Doctors consider a rare heart infection called micrococci endocarditai rugosa as a cure's promise emerges. A vaccine grown at Tufts Medical School from throat and blood cultures is being used to treat Mr Hall under the care of Drs Jernegan Nolen Leary and Callender.
The fourteenth annual B. A. A. Marathon begins at Ashland at 2 o'clock noon and ends around 2 25 p m. The 25 mile course from Ashland to the B A A clubhouse on Exeter street is winding and hilly. About 192 contestants are listed with an estimated 100 finishers and an expected 250 000 spectators along the route and finishers estimated at 25 000. The current course record is 27 h 2 m 24 s set by Lom Longboat of Toronto Canada in 1907.
In Ashland the 14th Boston Athletic Association Marathon starts as 193 top long distance runners from the United States and Canada prepare for the 25 mile trek. The field is the largest yet and the calibre of competitors is high with favorable weather raising hopes for record runs. The gun signals the start one mile beyond the depot at Stevens Corner.
A group of athletes will push through Framingham Wellesley the Newtons and Brookline on a 25 mile winding hilly course to reach the goal in front of the Exeter street club house.
Corporal Albert Myer Jr of the Back Bay Boston area, reputedly the country’s only enlisted man millionaire, has taken a lieutenancy examination. Officials expect his promotion to be decided within weeks after a creditable showing.
The Boston corporal Myer wins attention for cruising to dances in his own car while senior officers seek rides. He is the son of Major Albert Myer and grandson of Brigadier General Albert Myer who founded the signal corps. Fort Myer bears his grandfather’s name, and the post now houses the only one million roan enlisted man in the country.
A blaze tore through the Batavia Chambers at 60 Batavia Street last evening, forcing men women and children to flee apartments from cellar to roof. Damage exceeds 5000 with many residents losing belongings. Hoseman John P. Craig of Hose Company 3 was overcome by smoke but casualties were avoided. Insurance covers owner Henry Green's furniture loss.
A two weeks old baby girl was found in the hallway of the Prescott Club in Cambridge. Mrs. Ella Hearth, wife of the janitor, heard cries and discovered the infant wrapped in clothes of good texture at the club entrance last night.
Arthur M. Rood, 48, of 33 New Street, attempted to shoot up a crowded saloon on Summer near Paris Street in East Boston after an earlier row. After firing a third shot a policeman grabbed him and he is charged with discharging a loaded revolver. No injuries were reported.

Boston liquor dealers with sell-by-the-glass and bottlers licenses face a dilemma as a pending bar and bottle bill would split one license into two. The measure prohibits issuing both licenses for the same premises, affecting a $1400 license holder.
Salisbury Beach April 19 fire threatens cottages for the third time in a year. The Dorsay and another cottage burned at 2 o clock and Salisbury House, a large building, was in danger. Firefighters began work but limited protection raised doubts about stopping the blaze.
