Money Matters and Market Rates in Boston

A Friday report shows modestly firmer money inquiry and higher rate range. Banks discount mercantile paper at 4.5 to 5.5 percent, miscellaneous at 5 6 and 7 percent, and corporation paper 4 to 4 1/2 percent. New York funds discount 8 to 15 cents on 1090. Clearing house exchanges total 9,920,281 with balances 1,232,016. Bullion shipments next day 2,575,000 bringing weekly total to 5,315,166. Brookline Land sells at 29 16. Calumet and Heelan down 2 to 189, Franklin steady at 9, Huron at 11.

New York Stock Market Ends Strong Despite Midday Dip

The New York market opened with gains as readings showed robust activity with readings stronger late morning, led by Omaha stocks and Readings. By afternoon Readings slipped, Erie fell to lower levels amid illness reports, but overall market closed on a strong note as Omaha and other issues firmed. Transactions totaled 361,000 shares, with notable activity in Lackawanna and Pacific Mail.

Central court holds several assault with intent to rob cases

In the central municipal court Friday James J. Doherty was held for the upper court on assault with intent to rob in $2000 bail. John Thompson and James Kenney were bound over in $2000 each for assault on Frank H. Parker and John McDonald with intent to rob. In South Boston court Thomas F. King about 20 was charged with assault with a pistol with intent to murder and held in $5000 for the superior court.
