Rabbi Charles Fleischer of Temple Adath Israel spoke on The Claims of Modern Judaism on People of Liberal Thought. He argued Judaism has no fixed dogmas and is a spiritual attitude led by individualism, noting Christianity increasingly parallels Jewish contributions and that Jesus was a humane Hebrew. Boston Mansion on Foul ends in fourth round

In Portland Maine on April 17 at the Auditorium an announced eight round bout between Joe Marshall of Kansas and Joe Williams of New Orleans ended in the fourth after Marshall struck Williams in the ribs, breaking Williams wrist. Kid Burke of Chicago vs Jack Foley of South Boston went fifteen rounds with Burke fouling and Foley awarded the win in the third.

Richmond College Defeated Harvard 10 to 6 in Hard Game

Richmond College played Harvard in Richmond Va. on April 17 and held a tough contest but fell 10 to 6. Harvard fielded strong offense while Richmond pressed throughout the game.

Minstrel and Variety Show Delights Union Hall Crowd

The National Express Company's Employees Aid Society presented a minstrel and variety program at Union Hall last evening. A Harvard Atheneum and Palace Theatre troupe performed with P. F. Deady as interlocutor and W. Philbick, James B. Fitzgerald, J. Clahane, J. McLaughlin as bones. The Salvation Army girl, Goddess of Liberty, a soldier and a sailor drew big applause in the finale featuring T. Cornell, W. J. Nealon, F. P. Belton and G. Drew. The alio included Lew Wells, Mabel Stanley, G. F. Geer, McDonald and Bart, Edward Wright, M. Matthews and F. Isaacs.

The Sub-Treasury in Boston received several $10 raised from $2 silver certificates. Secret Service Agent R. D. Redfern investigates the forgery. The bills, series 1891 with William Windom, were altered by pasting a 10 over the 2 on tissue ink. Deputy Marshal Waters links the method to a man named Thomas, jailed for similar forgeries in another case.

The Back Bay Knights of Columbus held its first anniversary banquet at the Copley Square Hotel with about fifty members present. William T. Clarkson served as toastmaster and Dr. M. J. Journeyman Horseshoers threaten May strike over wage scale

The Journeyman Horseshoers in New England Hall denounce the Master Horseshoers refusal of their wage scale and reiterate a May 1 strike threat if no settlement is reached. The proposed scale lists 19 dollars for fitters 17 dollars for shoers and time and a half for overtime.

Soldier Bride Widowed After Soldier’s Funeral

The funeral of Alexander Lindsay corporal in Battery C Second Brigade United States army was held yesterday from 955 Tremont street. Interment at Mt Hope Cemetery. A squad of twelve men with a corporal and a bugler fired a volley and taps sounded. Lindsay age 28 leaves a widow married two weeks. He was stationed at Fort Warren until January and was reportedly run down when he came home recently. Rev Edward Burncamp assistant pastor of Trinity performed the services.

Lost Woman Julia Carlson Found In Boston

A young woman calling herself Julia Carlson appeared at police HQ and said she was lost. She was taken to the Chardon Street Home after reporting employment with a Boston woman and a visit to a Quincy friend. She could not locate her employer or the home, but identified a Quincy contact who arranged care.

Quay Faces Defeat as Allegheny Allies Cut Support

State Senator Magee of Pittsburgh, long backing Quay for U S Senate, said he would not vote for the ex-Senator next day. He claimed other Allegheny county members cast their last votes for Quay and predicted about twenty supporters would desert, boosting prospects for his opponent.
