The Hon. Edward J. Slattery ex-Senator from the fourth Middlesex district has been named by President Cleveland for postmaster at South Framingham with a salary of 2300 dollars per year. The schooner Warren B. Potter from Georgetown arrived with five rescued men and Captain Sawyer after aiding the waterlogged Helen J Holway off Thatcher's Island. The Holway, sailing April 3 to Brookline Maine with coal and mustard, faced a week of gale-force northeast winds driving her 160 miles east of Cape May, causing damage and exhaustion aboard. The Potter then ferried all hands to port.

Collision at Prison Point injures two passengers in rail crash

A switch engine from the Boston and Maine collided with a Fitchburg passenger train at Prison Point Charlestown. Miss Winnie Manning of Waltham and Miss Lena Wood of Portsmouth were seriously injured. The accident caused significant damage to both trains with repairs estimated in the low thousands.
